The Story Behind the Artwork
The Red Gurnard is an amazing fish with their bright red slender body and fins. From afar they look like a sea butterfly but on closer inspection those blue and green wings are their unique Pectoral fins.
These fins act like wings when extended out allowing the Gurnard to glide on the surface and tip toe on the sand with what look to be legs but are modified spines from their pectoral fins. These special spines rummage through the sand smelling around for things to eat.
