Sand flounder, one of three NZ flounder species, live in slightly salty waters throughout NZ, in brackish shallow waters. Flounders are quiet the hunter while camouflaged in sand they will strike at little creature that moves, crabs, shellfish and worms and often gulp up sandin the process.
